Kid

Hand Built Pottery

*10 Week Class*

Class will begin once enrollment is met

Instructor: Kim Gavin

Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm

Ages: 8-13yrs

Cost: $115

This class is designed for students just beginning in clay or those with experience. The techniques taught will use only your hands and some simple tools. Students will create three projects over a ten-week psyched course: a tile/trivet, a teapot (based on an Asian Style) and a hollow animal-shaped whistle. All pieces will be fired and glazed at the Ceramic Shop.

Art history will be used as a foundation and inspiration for all projects.

Families (adults with younger children are also encouraged to attend) Welcome!

This is taught by Kimberly Gavin, certified teacher in the Philadelphia School District and nominee for the 2011 Philadelphia Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Gavin has received her MA in Art Education with an Emphasis in Special Populations at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, and has a BFA from Parsons School of Design in NY. Ms Gavin works with students of all ages and abilities and believes that everyone can create something wonderful and unique.

Mommy & Me Arts-N-Crafts

This is a 4-week class for children and teens. Each week they will be focusing on a different art project using different materials and techniques. This class is great for building a well-rounded portfolio. Some of the ProjeX will include painting, Ink & Rice Paper drawing, collage, photo transfer, printmaking, stenciling, oil pastels and much more! Each lesson will have the student explore different art forms and there history. This class is fun creative and contemporary! We provide all materials.

Students will learn different fun techniques to express their creativity. Through hands-on crafts students will gain understanding of structure and composition. Unusual materials will be used to teach students how to re-purpose, re-use, and re-imagin every day objects. Kids will also learn about famous artists, local and international, who use these techniques every day in the world around us. Fun projects will include; mask making, 3-D sculptures, clay projects, painting, drawing, popsicle stick structures, collage, and much much more!

Stained Glass Jewelry Box Class

*6 week Class* Starts January 5th

Cost: $135

Class requires a basic knowledge of stained glass and how to cut, grind, and prepare Tiffany style stained glass. This is a six week class that moves quickly and efficiently to help you create a custom hinged or floating lid jewelry box. There will be three styles of design to choose from. All supplies are included.

Class requires a basic knowledge of stained glass and how to cut, grind, and prepare Tiffany style stained glass. This is a six week class that moves quickly and efficiently to help you create a custom transom or panel of approximately 3 square feet for your home. All patterns must be pre-approved by the teacher via email before the start of class. All transoms over 3 square feet are an additional $40 per square foot for materials. Transoms will be 90% clear glass. All supplies are included. The class is being taught by Danielle McDonnell, Co owner of DaniM Stained Glass (formerly Fishtown Stained Glass).

This is an 4 week course focusing on fine art figure and portrait drawing and painting. Students will learn the basics in figure & portrait drawing; measurements, foreshortening, composition, shading, and perspective. Then we will focus on applying those skills to oil painting. Students will learn how to use oil’s, how to mix them, and how to prepare the canvas. Students are welcomed to bring their own materials to class but if you don’t have any we will provide.

In this class students will begin making mosaic works of art from day one. No prior experience needed. Using various ceramic and glass tiles, broken dishes, mirror, river rocks, ect. Students will take various objects and recycle them into great mosaic works of art. Boxes, mirrors, frames, earthen pots, furniture and more. At the end of the course students should feel confident in creating their own mosaic projects independently.
